Color: Can create a mood or a setting. Color is not essential to a good design. Black and white and shades of gray can create 'color' that is just as effective as reds, blues, greens. However, color is an added dimension that can evoke moods. Value is how light or dark a color is. Use value to increase/decrease contrast. The greater the difference in value between an object and its background, the greater the contrast. Use value to create movement. Objects of the same value create a static design with all objects equal in visual importance. Use value to lead the eye. Red, blue, and yellow are primary colors. RGB = red, blue, and yellow. Complementary colors are orange, green, and purple. Orange is red plus yellow. Green is yellow plus blue. Hue is another word for color. Adding varying amounts of black to get shades. Adding varying amounts of white to lighten a hue. The light hues are tints.
